4-H FOUR LEAF CLOVER CLUB REPORT

           Written by Else-Maria Cook

The 4-H Four Leaf Clover Club is the oldest continuous 4-H Club in the State of Maine.  We completed another busy year in October. Officers of the club have been:

  1. Robert Chessie, President

  2. Lily Higgins, Vice-President

  3. Emily Kelley, Secretary

  4. Carolyn Higgins, Treasurer

  5. Colin Harris, Penny Treasurer

During the year the projects have been many and varied: arts & crafts, dairy, cooking, drawing, photography, poultry, plant science, geology and mathematics. Community work was also performed by members of the 4-H Four Leaf Clover Club in the form of collecting food for the Shapleigh Food Panty, planting flowers around town, donating their penny collection to the Salvation Army and serving lunch at the March Town Meeting.

A tour of a corn maze in Hollis and a tour of the Town's newly-acquired Williams property and Fort Ridge were enjoyed by members and their siblings for fun-filled and educational days.

Examples of members' projects were exhibited at the Ossipee and Acton Fairs. A shift was worked at the Acton Fair Leaders' food booth and a float was built for use in the parade.

The Extension Fall Fest, Sap Sunday, Parents’ Night, Community Day at Shapleigh Commons and tubing at Seacoast Park in Windham rounded out the activities for the year.

On October 1, 2012 at the end of the 4-H year, long-time assistant leader, Doris Brown, retired from the club. Grateful thanks was offered to her for 20 years of dedicated work.

New members are welcomed at any time from any town. The only requirement is that the child be between the ages of 5 – 18. FMI contact Else-Maria Cook or Hazel Goodwin.
