Fix-It Time:
“Reality Farming”

In the eight hours spent visiting Bill and Anna Spiller’s farm, it seemed as though they could never escape the ongoing battle with some mechanical challenge. Hats off to the Spillers for meeting each challenge head-on and still managing one of those “Sunny Smiles from the Spiller Farm!”

Check out the photos below to see some of the challenges:

9 a.m.  The belt on the conveyor ramp that transports the bales of hay to the the upper floor of the barn became jammed with twine. Anna and George, their hard-working assistant from Jamaica, managed to address the issue

and correct the problem.

10 a.m.   The baler had been acting up and Bill attempts to fix it.

1p.m.   As Anna drives the tractor to rake the field, a problem arises.

Now it’s time to figure out the hydraulics on the pinwheel rake.

3:15 p.m.   The belt on the hay baler has a mind of its own.  Baler refuses to shoot hay bales in the hay wagon.

4:00 p.m.   The hay wagon is removed so that the baler can continue by

just dropping the bales into the field.  Helpers are called from the farm to bring

a more accessible hay wagon and to assist with throwing the bales into this different wagon.
